Scott McKenzie
If your name were Philip Blondheim, would you change it to Scott McKenzie? That's exactly what this young Californian did before he joined folk group the Journeymen. By 1966, McKenzie had hooked up with Mamas and Papas songwriting giant John Phillips to compose what became his only, albeit global hit: "San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)". It was to remain his only big success as a performer and became McKenzie's defining moment in pop history. 22 years later, he co-wrote "Kokomo", another smash for the Beach Boys.
