Lil Wayne earned a boatload of Grammy nominations for his mega-selling 2008 album Tha Carter III, but all that guitar noodling onstage and in videos was for real: As Rolling Stone reported last month, Weezy is serious about embracing rock & roll, and plans to release the rock record Rebirth on April 7th.
Rappers who turn to rock have a checkered track record — some projects, like Lil Jon’s Crunk Rock, have yet to see the light of day, while others, like Ice T’s Body Count, have been responsible for some seminal tracks.
