Dexy's Midnight Runners

The new wave outfit Dexy’s Midnight Runners was formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England by the singer/songwriter Kevin Rowland and the guitarist Kevin “Al” Archer. Named after Dexedrine, a popular stimulant on the British music scene in those days, the band offered soul-inspired pop sounds and was called the future of British pop after the release of their 1980 debut album “Searching for the Young Soul Rebels”, which spawned the hit “There There My Dear”. Their second album, “Too-Rye-Ay”, was heavily influenced by Irish music and featured the smash hit “Come On Eileen”. They disbanded in 1986.
